Based in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Juan is currently a Research Associate at the Bank Information Center’s China-Latin America Sustainable Investments Initiative. He has authored a number of publications on the effects of Chinese loans to developing countries, focusing especially in the controversial case of the Kirchner-Cepernic hydroelectric dams in the Argentinian Patagonia, and the fossil fuel reserves in Ecuador and Venezuela. He is the founder of Agenda Antártica and has served as an advisor to the Energy and Natural Resources Committee of the National Congress of Argentina. Juan holds a Master’s degree in International Policy from Stanford University, a B.A. in Political Science at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and a Master’s in Economics from Universidad de San Andrés (Argentina).

Juan’s presentation will focus on the new trend of South-South Cooperation, emphasizing the role that China is playing in Latin America’s energy resources and how this is impacting the development of energy globally.
