The Fourth Annual Conference on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean will be held from February 22-23, 2019 at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES).

This year’s theme is Catalyzing Adaptation and Climate Finance in Latin America and the Caribbean. The conference will explore and  foster the exchange of inspiring experiences, opportunities and challenges for adaptation and climate finance in multiple sectors across the region. The conference theme is especially timely, with the anticipated Paris Agreement Work Programme to come out of the UNFCCC 24th Conference of the Parties, and other high-level events around the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 related to climate change.

Born out of student initiative, the event will be co-hosted by F&ES and the Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies (CLAIS) at The MacMillan Center.

Through speakers and discussions, we will explore the context of climate finance at an international level and at a local level. We will reflect on the climate financial structure of special climate funds and the role of multilateral development agencies. We will learn about gender-responsive adaptation and disaster risk preparedness plans, as well as explore diverse microfinance schemes that can increase the resilience to climate variability at a national and community level.
